Our R&D budget is committed to problems our clients have described but nobody has solved yet — which is a slower path than product-line extension, and a more useful one.

Research & development

Six programmes deciding what filtration looks like in ten years.

Media science

Characterisation and development of filtration media — pore structure, surface energy, fibre morphology and their effect on retention and dirt-holding.

  • Pleat geometry optimisation
  • Graded density constructions
  • Low-extractables polymer systems

Separation modelling

Computational work on droplet coalescence, particle capture mechanisms and flow distribution, validated against physical rigs.

  • Coalescence kinetics
  • Particle trajectory modelling
  • Maldistribution prediction

Hydrogen & clean energy

Purification for electrolyser and fuel cell systems, where purity thresholds and material behaviour differ fundamentally from hydrocarbon practice.

  • KOH aerosol coalescing
  • ISO 14687 purity attainment
  • Embrittlement-resistant design

Predictive maintenance

Turning differential pressure and flow data into change-out forecasts, so filtration becomes planned work rather than reactive work.

  • Curve-shape failure classification
  • Remaining-life estimation
  • DCS integration patterns

Sustainable filtration

Reducing the lifetime environmental cost of filtration through longer service life, lower pressure drop and recyclable construction.

  • Energy per litre filtered
  • Single-polymer recyclable elements
  • Backwash volume reduction

Advanced materials

Qualification of sintered metal, ceramic and fluoropolymer systems for temperatures and chemistries beyond conventional media.

  • Sintered 316L regeneration
  • All-PTFE flow paths
  • High-temperature ceramic elements
Active projects

Four things currently on the bench.

Published because clients ask what is coming, and because collaborators occasionally recognise their own problem in the list.

RD-24-07Field trial

Single-polymer recyclable cartridge

An element in which media, core, cage and end caps are all the same polymer, so the spent cartridge is a single-stream recyclable rather than a composite going to landfill.

Six-month field trial on three client sites, concluding Q4 2026.

RD-25-02Validation

Remaining-life estimation from differential pressure

A model that classifies the shape of the differential pressure curve to distinguish blinding from bypass and forecast change-out date three to five weeks ahead.

Validating against 14 instrumented installations across four industries.

RD-25-06Qualification

KOH-compatible coalescing media

Coalescing media for alkaline electrolyser product gas that survives the electrolyte carryover without degradation or contaminant contribution.

In qualification with two European electrolyser manufacturers.

RD-26-01Laboratory

Regenerable sintered element for sub-fab abatement

Sintered 316L elements with a thermal regeneration cycle, targeting semiconductor abatement duties where consumable change-out is a contamination event.

Cycle-life testing to 500 regenerations underway.

Collaboration

We run joint development programmes with clients and universities.

Most of our useful research started as a client problem that had no catalogue answer. Where the problem is general enough to matter beyond one site, we will fund a share of the programme in exchange for the right to commercialise the result.

Terms are agreed before work starts: who owns what, who may publish, what stays confidential and how long exclusivity runs. We have never had a dispute about it, because the document exists first.

What we look for

  • A measurable failure

Something currently going wrong that can be quantified before and after.

  • Access to the real stream

Laboratory surrogates rarely reproduce what actually fouls a filter.

  • Generality beyond one plant

If it only ever applies to one site, it is engineering work, not research.

  • Patience for a real timeline

Media development and qualification take twelve to thirty months. There is no shortcut.

Research

Describe the problem nobody has solved.

If it is measurable, general and you can give us access to the real stream, there is a good chance we will fund part of the work.
