Overview

Aerosol separation where a droplet costs a compressor.

Liquid aerosol in a gas stream is invisible on any gauge and catastrophic in the wrong place. Sub-micron droplets pass straight through a knock-out drum, arrive at a compressor or a turbine, and remove blade material in hours.

SEPRA coalescers work in two stages. The filter medium captures and merges sub-micron droplets into large ones — this is coalescence, and it is the only mechanism that touches aerosols below 3 µm. Gravity and a vane pack then handle the enlarged droplets, which are now easy to separate.

Sizing is governed by the Souders-Brown velocity, not by pipe size. Getting this wrong is the single most common cause of coalescer re-entrainment — a filter that appears clean, at full differential pressure, and passes liquid downstream regardless. We size on gas density at actual operating conditions, every time.

Advantages

What this platform does that a catalogue item does not.

Sized on Souders-Brown, not pipe diameter

Vessel diameter is derived from gas density at actual conditions, which is what prevents re-entrainment at the top of the element.

Two-stage separation as one vessel

Coalescing media merges sub-micron aerosols; the vane pack removes the enlarged droplets — both inside a single code-stamped envelope.

Sour service as standard practice

NACE MR0175 compliant metallurgy, hardness-controlled welds and PWHT where the H₂S partial pressure calls for it.

Hydrogen-ready metallurgy

The SEPRA-H2 configuration uses embrittlement-resistant alloys and helium leak testing to 1×10⁻⁹ mbar·L/s.

FAQs

Questions engineers ask about gas filters & coalescers

A separator uses gravity, momentum or centrifugal force and is effective down to roughly 10 µm. A coalescer merges sub-micron droplets into larger ones before separating them, which is the only way to reach 0.1 µm aerosol removal.
